'Blair Witch' Director Casting Movie Via Web

Natali Del Conte - PC MagazineWed Sep 13, 11:24 AM ET

In the culture of YouTube, everyone is a star. Daniel Myrick, the director of The Blair Witch Project, thinks so anyway. Myrick is using Abazab, a social sharing site that allows users to share videos, pictures and voice, to cast his next movie, The Objective.

Every morning Myrick wakes up and checks his Abazab inbox to watch the submissions sent the previous day. He hopes to make his final decisions within the next few weeks.

"We have a casting director on board but I just thought that this would be an efficient way to reach out to the general public for submissions," Myrick said in a call with PC Magazine on Monday. "It makes it easier for us to review and easier for the actors to submit. It allows us to review a lot more potential people for the role than would otherwise be possible."

The Objective is a supernatural/thriller about five military officers on a mission in Afghanistan. They go in search of a warlord but find something "that is arguably supernatural or unexplainable," said Myrick.

The casting call requests that submissions be two minutes long. The Web site, TheObjective.com, has dialogue for each character that actors can read for their audition, or they can make up their own. Myrick, who is considered one of the more organic directors in Hollywood today, believes that this casting methodology will help him find raw undiscovered talent.

"I think unrecognizable and no-name actors are what we're going for and I think this is the best way to go about finding them," Myrick said.

"Dan is a visionary. He truly gets how to leverage technology and the Internet for filmmakers," said Duane Kuroda, vice president of marketing for Abazab. "We are pleased that he quickly grasped how the playbox could help his casting process in terms of ease of setup, use, and talent reach."

The Objective is scheduled to start filming in early November. Myrick said that actors will be paid a "normal actors salary," although he could not say how much.

"We want people that can act but the key for me is people who have really good improvisational skills," Myrick said. "When we were casting for Blair Witch, it was key to find people who could think quickly on their feet and be natural and fill the profile of our characters and also bring their own personality to the roles."

He said that the budget for this movie, which will take three weeks to shoot and most likely be released in the summer of 2007, is just under $5 million.

I'm in the top 5 of GOOGLE SEARCH

Hello friends, it's a weird coincedence but a random stranger from Tennesse
just IM me telling me that I'm on the top 5 GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH.
If you type "GAY CLUB" on google image, I'm the top 5. Oh my gosh,
does this mean I'm starting to become famous. Apparently the picture
was about my friend Jan from Prague who was touching my ass at the gay club
in San Francisco. It's quite funny I tell you. It's only a friendly touch. lol
for the purpose of taking funny pictures. lol

Oh gosh, just see it for yourself. Look for me on GOOGLE, you will laugh
at the picture.

Summer is Over BOO!!!

Now that my summer is officially over; it's time for me to go back to school.
I want to finish school already because I'm sick of studying. I guess this is
the cause of SENIORITIS; you don't want to study anymore if you are always
done with school. Well after this semester, I have 3 more required classes to finish, then
I'll say HASTA LA VISTA SJSU!!! That would be a great feeling to say I'm done with college and
I'll never come back again. Thinking ahead of time, I don't think I will be going to get an MBA because I don' really see the point. Well I know I just want a simple life with a nice car, house and a partner. Whoa, I'm too advance, thinking about family... Ever since I was a little kid, I dream of becoming a doctor, then a pilot, then an enginnerring, now I end up being a marketer, but I have no complain about that because I love marketing. I love to meet people that's why I choose this field and love to make everything happen. And I love working for the media that's why I'm a marketer right now. I love the FAME... like the show!!!

What else is going on with me this fall?
Well I'm taking 5 classes and 2 part time jobs.
My FALL Classes are:
-Business to Business Advertising
-Advertising in Radio, Television and other types of media
-New Ventures of Marketing
-Market Research
-Customer Behavior

I still work for abazab as unpaid marketing intern
and I also work for Mineta Transportation Institute
as an office assistant. I know it's a lot of work but I can do it.
The only tough time I'm having right now is with my marketing
research class. Oh my gosh, it's a lot of reading. Man, I already printed
over 79 pages just for the first exam notes, plus I have to read 6 chapters.
This would be an interesting class. I'm just thinking positive because I want
to pass this class even with a C, so I can take the next class after this, which is
Marketing Management. I plan to graduate this Spring of 2007, but if I don't
pass my market research class, most likley I will graduate in the summer of 2007,
well it's not that bad as long as I graduate and done with college.

How about you? How are you summer? Is it exciting as I had?

Video Blogging

I discovered this new technology that lets you share videos to friends
and others in one media player like a video locker. It's really cool.
Another cool thing about this technology is that your friends can comment
on your video using a video comment or photo comment.

If you are into video blogging, you can totally use this technology for that.

Get one yourself, so we can comment on each other on your videos and photos.

I will be posting a lot of videos on my playbox so you guys can track me on what I am doing this summer.
